Beaumont police investigating second homicide in two days at start of new year

Beaumont Police are investigating the late New Year’s Day homicide of 30-year-old Felton Jones, a man relatives say was a great role model and father who loved his family dearly.

On Saturday, January 1 at 11:52 p.m., Beaumont officers responded to the 2300 block of Taylor on a victim of a shooting call. The body of Felton Jones, 30, was located in the driver’s seat of a gray Chevy Malibu.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was parked outside of a residence and several gunshots were heard by witnesses. Detectives are in the early stages of the investigation and it’s ongoing.

Family members and friends say they’re devastated by the loss.

“He was a great person who made everyone laugh and was a hard working man,” his cousin, Nathan Scott IV, told KFDM/Fox 4. “He was a great role model and father who loved his family dearly and liked to play basketball and his PlayStation.”

We’re told Jones was a class of 2010 Silsbee High School graduate.

Police are already investigating the homicide of Joshua Yates, 34, in his home on Cartwright Street. His body was found on New Year’s Eve. He ran for mayor in 2019.
