DUSON, La. – Duson Police responded to the 500 block of G Street in response to a 911 call by a female victim reporting an attempted rape on December 18, 2021.
Officers arrived and were informed 36 year old Jefferson Lazala had been drinking alcohol and using illegal drugs throughout the day and during the evening hours Lazala had removed his clothing and attempted to force sex with a female known to him.
The victim was successful in forcibly resisting Lazala due to his altered condition and was able to make a 911 call. Officers were able to locate Lazala at the home, visibly distraught, but did not deny the victim’s allegations. Lazala was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail where he is being held on a $20,000.00 bond.
Duson Police Chief Kip Judice stated the case in being turned over to the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office, and credits the female victim with being alert and responding to the attack with courage. “This victim was not going to allow Lazala to ruin her life, her actions and persistence in calling the police even though she is acquainted with the assailant potentially saved others from becoming victims of Lazala’s aggression.”
