Spring.
A man has been taken into custody and charged with murder in an apparent connection to a fatal shooting Tuesday evening at a Spring apartment complex’s parking lot.
Chase Alexander Rene Ellison, 28, of Houston, is being held on a $200,000 bond on murder charges at the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe, according to jail records.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a 6:40 p.m. call about an assault with a firearm at the 300 block of Valleywood Drive found in the parking lot a 27-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. The shooting victim was taken to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries at 7:48 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
A deputy was working nearby and heard the gunshots, responded to the scene, performed measures to try and save the victim’s life and detained the suspect, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Scott Spencer told media at the scene.
A preliminary investigation suggested the shooting resulted from an altercation between the victim and the suspect, who were former roommates. The suspect reportedly retrieved a pistol from his vehicle and shot the victim in the parking lot, according to the agency.
“Numerous witnesses observed the incident, and are being interviewed by detectives,” read a Tuesday night statement from the sheriff’s office. “The name of the victim is being withheld at this time, pending notification of his next of kin.”
Ellison was taken into custody at the Green Tree Place Apartments. He was jailed at around 1 a.m. Wednesday, jail records show.
