LAKE JACKSON — Three teenagers have been charged with the beating of a fellow student.
Cole Hagan, who was a member of the Brazoswood High School football team, remains in ICU after being brutally attacked around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at a party at a home on Cherrywood Court in Lake Jackson, about 53 miles South of Houston.
According to KTRK, EMS units found Hagan, 16, unconscious and bleeding from his ears after allegedly being beaten by three teenagers, who lured him out of the party by telling him his truck had been hit.
According to court documents obtained by KTRK, Reid Mitchell, 17, allegedly punched Cole in the face, slammed him into the concrete and threw three or four hard elbows, according to a witness. Mitchell is charged with aggravated assault. He and Hagan had been members of the Brazoswood High School football team together.
Ayden Holland, 17, and Logan Huber, 18, have both also been charged with aggravated assault.
“They left him in the road after they finished attacking him and then texted one of his friends that were in the backyard of this house to say, ‘Hey come get your boy out of the street.’ They left him in the street, people who were supposed to be his friends,” Cory Hagan, Cole’s older brother, told KTRK.
Cole’s family was offering a $1,000 reward for a video of the incident they believe will show what happened. With the help of the community, the reward is now up to $25,000.
Cory gave an update on Monday saying it had been a great day for Cole.
Cole is off of the ventilator and breathing on his own, and they got him out of bed to take a few steps today. He still has a long road ahead of him, but he is fighting hard and we have faith that God will restore his health.
A community prayer vigil was held on Wednesday at the Freeport Community Park.
