Lufkin PD arrests Longview man in hotel parking lot shooting

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – Tuesday night a man was shot at a local Lufkin hotel and was flown to an out-of-town hospital.

According to an official report, officers were called to Quality Inn and Suites at 4306 South First Street in Lufkin to a report of shots fired in the parking lot.

Officers arrived to find a man had been wounded in the pelvis/leg following a verbal disturbance with another man, said officials.

The suspect in the incident is identified as Sadarius Martins, 22, of Longview. Martins is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond had not been set as of 12 p.m. Wednesday.

The shooting victim is Joel Vega, 25, of Houston. Vega remains in an out-of-town hospital and is expected to recover.

The official report stated that witnesses told officers the disturbance was over hotel parking. Martins was taken into custody following the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
