Earlier this month, Whataburger released the list of locations and planned opening dates for its first stores across the Kansas City area. On Monday, the first of these locations opened in Lee’s Summit at 11 a.m. Posts on social media detailed the moments leading up to the grand opening, the first customers served and more.

One Twitter user said “they won’t let anyone camp out for the grand opening of the new @Whataburger in Lee’s Summit until they open at 11.”

In a tweet, Katharine Finnerty, a digital producer at KSHB 41 News, said the first customer received 52 free Whataburgers and was “completely surprised by the gift basket and free burgers.”

Some photos and videos on social media showed long lines at the location.

Another Twitter user said they arrived at the Whataburger location at approximately 8 a.m.

One Twitter user used to occasion to pass along secret menu recommendations.
