Two children are hospitalized following a shooting incident late Sunday morning in Cougar Country, located between Buna and Kirbyville.
According to Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan, a 4-year-old boy somehow got a handgun and fired a shot which went through his arm and struck a 2-year-old boy.
Duncan said one child was flown to a hospital by medical helicopter while the other child was transported to a hospital by ambulance. Duncan said the injuries to both children, although serious, are not believed to be life threatening.
Meanwhile, Duncan said an investigation is underway to determine how the child was able to get his hands on the gun.
