Suspect arrested for manslaughter after woman who was possibly thrown from vehicle dies

JEFFERSON COUNTY — Port Arthur Police say Lonnie Rodgers Jr., 48, of Nederland, is jailed on a Manslaughter charge in connection with the death of Madison Martinez, 27, also of Nederland. Rodgers’ bond is $500,000.

Police say shortly before 10 p.m. October 15, officers responded to the area of Lake Arthur Drive and 9th Avenue following a report of a woman who was possibly thrown from a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and found an unresponsive female. The woman, later identified as 27-year-old, Madison Martinez, had suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

On November 10, an arrest warrant for Manslaughter was issued for Lonnie Rodgers, 48, out of Nederland. Rodgers was taken into custody a short time after the warrant was issued.

The death of Madison Martinez is an ongoing and fluid investigation, according to police. The Criminal Investigations Division of the Port Arthur Police Department continues to follow leads and no further information will be released at this time.
