Burby mum on Monday raid and arrests

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby is holding his cards close to the vest following an early Monday afternoon search warrant that resulted in two arrests.

On Tuesday, Burby said the two individuals who were taken into custody remain in the Newton County Jail and were awaiting arraignment, which he says will come on Wednesday morning. Their names have not yet been released.

Additionally, Burby said an investigation is continuing, but he’s not saying what was found in the house that was raided.

It happened at a home in the 500 block of Kaufman Street, which is just southwest of the Newton Courthouse Square and the sheriff’s department. Burby said officers on the municipal, county, and state level had a warrant in hand when they conducted the raid.

KJAS News will update this story when new information is released.
