GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – Tuesday, November, 2 started out like any other day for Caystin Poche.
That is until Poche and her fiancé turned onto S Purpera Ave. around 3:15 p.m.
Poche details what happens next as a “scary experience.”
The couple was heading towards Hwy 30 when they saw something hurtling towards their vehicle.
At first, the couple could not recognize what it was, but as it moved closer, they realized it was a piece of wood.
Poche says, “we saw it coming at us but there was nothing for us to do.”
Before they could maneuver out of the way, a piece of wood came flying through their windshield.
Caystin’s fiancé jumped into action and blocked the wood from hitting her in the face.
The wood came to a stop on Caystin’s fiancé.
Caystin believes the wood would have hit her in the face without the quick action of her fiancé.
From there, the couple made their way to a Shell gas station nearby.
Caystin says that a witness pulled up and told them that the wood had come off a white truck.
The truck was travelling in the opposite direction when this happened and the witness was directly behind the truck, according to Poche.
The City of Gonzales Police Department arrived at the scene and no one was hurt other than Caystin’s fiancé suffering some soreness in his hand.
