Trick-or-treater replenishes empty candy bucket with his own hard-earned candy

A Midlander’s Ring camera facing their front porch captured a Halloween act of kindness that is gaining attention on the well-known Facebook group AskMidland, as people continue to gravitate to the feel good story.

On Halloween night, Dan Stepaniak placed a bucket of candy on his porch in the Farnsworth Drive area for trick-or-treating kids to help themselves to.

Eventually, the candy ran out, which is when Stepaniak’s Ring camera captured an image of a neighborhood child adding candy from his hard-earned stash to the bucket when he noticed it was empty.

Stepaniak posted the image and the story to AskMidland last night where it has received more than 1,000 likes and 80 comments.

Stepaniak, hesitant to share the story at first since he doesn’t post much, said the kid has “a heart of gold for sure!” He is glad that he chose to put the story out there and is surprised by how many people are interested in it.

“It’s nice to share such a positive moment and from the other comments I’ve read Johnnie sounds like a great kid,” Stepaniak said in a Facebook message.

Some members of the Facebook group had their hearts warmed by the story. One commenter said, “Oh my goodness! That almost made me cry. That is awesome! Restores one’s faith in humanity and humbles the soul. God bless this child.”

Another said, “Someone figure out who he is and reward him. This is this kid’s heart when (he thinks) no one is watching. Good job mom and dad.”

The post even made its way to the child’s mom, Nikki Rios, who couldn’t be prouder.

Rios thanked the commentors impressed by her child’s generosity, saying, “I try my best. You never know if you’re raising your child right… but this post definitely made me proud with all the kind words.”

And, she showed the post to her son, Johnnie, who was shocked at all the replies and how many liked it received.

“Kindness is a daily thing for him, as he always tries to make people happy with or without them knowing,” Rios continued. “His sister and I are truly blessed as he always goes above and beyond.”
