CONROE ISD NOT A GOOD NEIGHBOR

Over the summer Conroe ISD started to build a new school behind Caney Creek High. In doing so they ran all the drainage to the retention pond along FM 1485 including piping under the playing fields to get it there. Now with the pond filling their answer is to pump it off onto private property and flood local residents. The retention ponds they had during Imelda failed miserably. Now those ponds are channeled to the new deeper pond. With the pumping onto private land, they are now flooding out a 92-year-old woman’s property who is not even in the flood plain bringing water up to her house. Last summer they addressed the issue and dug the pond deeper and dug a trench on her property to drain the water to the back of  Albert Moorhead School which then goes to Caney Creek. That solved the issue as they shut the pumps down, however once again they are back to pumping again with the same results. Residents in the Lazy Caney Pines Subdivision which butts up against the school property have filed various other complaints on deaf ears. After 3 pm residents cannot safely get out of the neighborhood as motorists line up to the intersection where a resident has to pull into a moving lane of traffic to see around the vehicles. Since last year there have been five crashes at the intersection. The resident who is flooding called Conroe several times today and got a secretary telling her the person she needs to talk to is in a meeting. Meanwhile, the water rises.

230pm-UPDATE: Conroe ISD has contacted the family a short time ago and shut the pumps down. They told them they will move pumps to the resident’s property and pump the water to the drainage canal at Albert Morehead and would re-evaluate the situation.
