Homeowner escapes fire that kills more than 30 dogs

JASPER — By Mike Lout/KJAS – The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to home at 939 Avenue A, just a block from the Jasper Junior High School, shortly after 4:00 on Tuesday morning, when it was reported that a single story, wood frame structure was on fire. The firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames coming from the back of the home and quickly spreading through the rest of the house.

The Jasper Firefighters began to battle the blaze and at the same time called for help and before it was over, volunteers from the East End, Tri-Community, Lake Rayburn, Beech Grove and the Roganville Fire Departments had all began called to the scene to assist. The Beech Grove VFD took the pictures in this story.

No one was injured in the fire. However, word is that possibly over 30 dogs died on the blaze. A firefighter at the scene said that it appeared that the homeowner raised dogs.

It is still not known what caused the fire or who owned the house.
