Police identify Lumberton pedestrian fatally struck by tractor-trailer truck

Authorities have identified a pedestrian who was killed by a tractor-trailer truck in Lumberton on Friday night.

Police received a call for an auto-pedestrian crash shortly after 8 p.m. near the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lumberton on U.S. 69, said Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins.

Police found that 30-year-old Jody Alexander Hampshire, of Lumberton, had been struck by a southbound commercial motor vehicle. Hamilton was pronounced dead on the scene by Hardin County Justice of the Peace Chris Ingrim.

“It was determined that Hampshire was walking in the roadway and was struck by the 18-wheeler,” Sullins said. “No charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the 18-wheeler.”

The hotel is located near a Walmart Super Center and the Lumberton Independent School District, where a football game was being played at Raider Stadium.

No further information was immediately available.
