The Sabine River Authority is hosting a regional flood planning public meeting on Tuesday, October 26, at West Orange-Stark Elementary School on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The meeting will be in the open house style with experts displaying maps and answering questions. The time is from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
People will also be able to comment on flood problems during the meeting and before. Comments can be made through comments@sabine-RFPG.org.
The Sabine Regional Flood Planning Group is made of 21 counties in the Sabine River Basin. The group was formed after Senate Bill 8 in 2019 set up regions in the state to design comprehensive flood prevention plans.
SRA said the group will gather and analyze data, identify existing and future flood risks, evaluate floodplain management practices, and develop strategies and projects to reduce flooding.
