BEAUMONT — KFDM/Fox 4 News has learned two Beaumont attorneys have filed a lawsuit against Vista College after it shut down in Beaumont and other locations.
We reported on the closure Friday. Vista was located in the Gateway Shopping Center in Beaumont.
Students told us they received an email from Vista, stating it’s in compliance with state and federal standards but is unable to keep its doors open due to financial circumstances.
The Ferguson Law Firm and Bailey Reyes firm In Beaumont filed the suit Tuesday in Jefferson County District Court.
The are filing on behalf of one student but they’re asking the court for Class Action status on behalf of more than 3,000 Texas students who attended Vista.
In the lawsuit, the attorneys are seeking damages of more than $1 million.
They say the students suffered “monetary and non-monetary damages as result of abrupt, unexcused campus closures October 8.”
The lawsuit alleges Vista College “breached agreements” with students and made “misrepresentations to lure student enrollment.”
