Business Looking To Expand With Grant

Childs Ace Hardware on 16th Street is planning a $1.15 million expansion. On Tuesday, the City of Orange Economic Development Corporation will hold public hearing to give a maximum $300,000 infrastructure grant for the project.

The EDC board of directors will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for a meeting that will include the public hearing and a vote for the grant. The Orange City Council will then meet at 9 a.m. and vote on the grant. The meetings will be in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.

The plans submitted to the city by Childs Manufacturing and Building Supplies show an additional metal building to be added to the current one, which is at 3704 16th Street at the Interstate 10 West frontage road.

City Manager Mike Kunst in a memo to councilors said qualified infrastructure includes site work, storm drainage,  parking, framing, and metal building components.

Childs Ace Hardware is owned by Brad Childs, who holds the Single-Member District 2 seat on the Orange City Council representing the Little Cypress area. As a councilor, he also sits on the EDC board of directors and has been vice president of the board for the past year.

He will be required to recuse himself from voting on the grant request.
