The paper mill in Evadale, which is owned and operated by the WestRock Company, is preparing for an upcoming week-long shutdown of the facility to perform maintenance. A secretary with the company said Tuesday that it will happen near the end of October.
Meanwhile, Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman says that multiple deputies will be working extra-jobs to provide security both at the paper mill and also at the nearby drag-racing track in Evadale while the shutdown is underway.
Newman said there will be numerous contractors, equipment, and workers parking at both locations and the workers will be bussed to and from the mill around the clock. The sheriff said the deputies will be guarding the equipment and vehicles on both parking lots.
