JEFFERSON COUNTY — A jury convicted a woman of murdering her father.
Kelly Sartin faces up to life in prison following the decision Thursday afternoon in Judge Raquel West’s court.
The jury convicted Sartin of murdering her father, 81-year-old Charles Sartin, who owned a popular seafood restaurant in Sabine Pass.
Sartin killed her father at his home in Sabine Pass in September of 2019.
Police found his body wrapped in a tarp on a mattress. It had been there for several days.
Sartin first told police her father had committed suicide by beating himself with a rolling pin and another kitchen utensil.
Police say she later admitted striking him with a rolling pin, a spatula and her fists.
Charles Sartin’s family had called police in the week prior to the discovery, asking officers to check on his welfare.
Kelli Sartin took the witness stand this afternoon during the punishment phase.
The range of punishment is 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
