Humane Society Is Offering A $750 Reward For The Person Responsible For Shooting Bullseye, A Neighborhood Dog In Carencro

CARENCRO, LA (KADN)– The Humane Society of Louisiana is offering a $750 reward to anyone who can help find a suspect in the shooting of a dog in Carencro.

The dog is known as “Bullseye” and he is referred to as the neighborhood pet. He is a stray that roams around the Wilderness Trail neighborhood in Carencro and those familiar with him say that they don’t know why someone would want to harm him.

“This dog didn’t hurt anyone. This dog will come over he was as sweet as can be. He was very disciplined, he listened to you whenever you talk to him, he didn’t try to jump on you like most dogs do when they get excited, he let you pet him, he let you play with them. I can’t imagine anybody who would want to try to hurt an innocent animal like that,” Donna Lowe, a resident in Wilderness Trail, said.

Lowe, like others, was in disbelief when they found out that Bullseye was shot. She had just seen him a few days prior.

A person from the area posted in the Wilderness Trail Facebook group that they notice that Bullseye was under their car, suffering from a bullet wound.

“It broke my heart immediately because I knew he needed vet care at that point,” she said.

Lowe immediately contacted her friend Amber Richard, who rescues animals, to step in and help.

Richard brought him to the Lafayette Veterinary Care Center where it was confirmed that he was shot. The bullet entered his side and fractured his back left leg.

Bullseye was later transferred to the Humane Society in New Orleans for more affordable treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery and later be put up for adoption. Lowe says Bullseye’s future family will be lucky to have him

“He’s very well behaved, well-mannered disciplines. I think that he would make a really good pet. He was very friendly,” she said.

According to Jeff Dorson, the Humane Society of Louisiana is offering a $750 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for shooting Bullseye.

“Somebody took a gun pointed at him and shot him with the intent probably to kill him, and an entered near his spine on the back end of his body, and ended up shattering his back, left leg. Untreated eventually he would die from infection,” Dorson said.

Bullseye will be having surgery to save his left leg and the Humane Society is covering all of his hospital costs.

Dorson said whoever is responsible for this should come forward.

“Anytime an animal is injured like this, deliberately, it’s a criminal offense,” he said.

Bullseye will be heading to surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery. Once healed, he will be brought back to Lafayette and put up for adoption.

Those wishing to donate to Bullseye’s medical care can donate online through the Humane Society’s website at, through its PayPal account at, or by sending a check or money order to P.O. Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174. All donations are tax-deductible.
