Vehicle loaded with pot abandoned at Laredo park

U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered an abandoned vehicle loaded with more than 470 pounds of marijuana at Father McNaboe Park in northwest Laredo, authorities said.

During the late afternoon of Sept. 8, agents responded to an alert of several people loading large bundles into a gray sport utility vehicle in the parking lot of Father McNaboe Park.

Agents arrived to find the abandoned vehicle loaded with seven bundles of marijuana. The contraband weighed 477.3 pounds with an estimated street value of $381,040. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents continue to secure the nation’s borders and prevent the smuggling of drugs. Their mission is to target and investigate potential violators of the law and stop transnational criminal organizations from their illegal activities by utilizing state-of-the-art intelligence data, equipment, collection and analytics,” Border Patrol said in a statement.
