Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of a woman whose body was found in Newton County on Monday.
The body was discovered by utility workers in a wooded area on Texas 87 in the Devil’s Pocket Community, according to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Brenda Smith pronounced the woman dead, and her body was taken to the Jefferson County Forensic Medical Center in Beaumont for an autopsy.
“The woman has been identified, but her name is not being released at present,” Burby said.
The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
