Amber Alert: DPS believes East Texas children abducted and in grave danger

CHEROKEE COUNTY — The DPS is searching for a man and two children following an Amber Alert Tuesday morning.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 10-year-old Ashlynn Wells, 11-year-old Desmond Wells, and Jesse Ray Schmidt, 32, suspected in their abduction. The children were last seen at about 1:15 p.m. Monday in the 11200 block of U.S. 84 West, on the east side of Rusk.

Last seen wearing a peach T-shirt, peach shorts, gray/pink Nike shoes

She has dimples, a scar on her right ring finger, and a black birthmark on her left thigh

White, 11-year-old boy


154 pounds

Blonde hair

Blue eyes

Last seen wearing a blue/black T-shirt, gray shorts, Wolverine hiking boots

Has a scar on his left shin

Schmidt is white, with brown hair and hazel eyes, 5 ’10” and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen driving a black 2012 Honda Civic with Texas license plate number BNX6155 in the Rusk area south of Tyler.

Officials believe the children are in “grave or immediate danger.”
